Abstract
Among antibiotics colistin and gentamicin are drugs of highly sensitive to Pseudomonas both in vitro and in vivo test. However, gentamicin is still limited use clinically as compared to the broad application of colistin.
Authors have studied the sensitivity patterns of Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from various pathologic sources against both drugs as well as the effect of combined action of these drugs.
Combined action of both drugs exhibited a slight synergistic action on the inhibitory and the lethal action to the test strains and resistance formation of Ps.aeruginosa to gentamicin was not observed by serial passage in drug added media.
Most of isolated strains were more sensitive to gentamicin than colistin, and vaginal strains were homogenous in sensitivity patterns than strains of other sources.
